What’s Your Hybrid?

Research by Gartner is helping organizations better understand the full impact of Hybrid Working. Most agree, some form of Hybrid Working is the future norm; however, Hybrid working arrangements can be daunting for those about to adopt them and challenging for those who already have. Organizations are thinking not just about location, in the future of work, but also time spend and democratizing access to multiple modes of working.

Garner reports that organizations face a hybrid future, with 75% of hybrid or remote knowledge workers saying their expectations for working flexibly have increased. In the hybrid environment, teams will have access to multiple modes of working, and organizations must invest equally in each of these modes and define their purpose in order to drive innovation. The hybrid environment presents four modes of collaboration — working together together, working together apart, working alone together, and working alone apart — and each plays a role in achieving high performance.

Most organizations are investing in synchronous modes based on the assumption that these are more important than asynchronous, but Gartner’s data shows that asynchronous modes are just as important to achieving innovation. HR leaders at organizations are improving the quality of all four modes and empowering teams to decide how to leverage each and when by collaborating more intentionally.
