McGregor Interests, Inc. is a diversified commercial real estate and property management company headquartered in Omaha, NE that specializes in the acquisition and management of income producing property for its own portfolio, as well as asset management for its clients. Since its formation in 1978, McGregor has concentrated its efforts on Traditional Real Estate Investments to build wealth and provide a hedge against inflation for its investors.
Prior to using Cabinet NG’s (CNG) document management software, McGregor purchased a competitor’s product but was disappointed with its performance and customer support. The management side of the system was sub-par and efforts to seek technical support were fruitless. Despite its initial disappointment with document management, McGregor knew there had to be a different solution available that would preserve their legacy data (both historical and current scanned documents) without having to first reprint all of their (approximately 250,000) documents, then rescan and file those documents while maintaining the integrity of their filing system.
With additional offices in Kansas City, they also wanted remote access instead of maintaining duplicate files at both locations. With original documents having been shredded or no longer available, they needed to be able to move the existing data without any additional work, and preserve the integrity of the data which is critical from both a business and legal perspective.
No more storage lockers
Today, McGregor is using CNG’s Shared Access Filing Environment (CNG-SAFE). The ability to scan and file documents electronically reduced the cost of storing and maintaining two large off-site storage lockers. Beyond these costs, these lockers had two major drawbacks:
With CNG-SAFE, McGregor is saving money and the documents are readily available in a timely organized manner, plus there is no need to travel off-site.
“From a technical perspective the product was very attractive because it only required off the shelf hardware and the ability to use Microsoft SQL express was a major cost savings. This allowed CNG-SAFE to inte-grate in to the existing environment with minimal additional costs,” said David Mooney, Corporate Controller at McGregor.
McGregor’s ability to process, approve and pay invoices more efficiently and complete the complex tasks it takes to maintain and manage property maximizes its investors return. Because CNG-SAFE supports multiple locations, McGregor is able to manage properties in different states and process (i.e. print, file and workflow) all documents using a single system. As McGregor grows (adding new properties and/or employees), the system easily scales to meet the demand.
