An evening at Diamond Mills

After a 30 year hiatus from its status as the epicenter of economy in Saugerties, the property on the north side of the Barclay dam has returned in the form the Diamond Mills Hotel and Tavern, which celebrated its grand opening in the fall of 2011.

The Ulster Chamber held their November mixer at the newly-constructed hotel, and the buzz surrounding the Chamber events coupled with the wonderful venue proved successful enough to completely sell out on availability. It was a rainy night, but the staff of Diamond Mills did an excellent job of managing the huge influx of vehicles with valet parking, allowing attendees to get inside quickly and efficiently.

Inside, the spectacular design was decorated with subtlety and class, and the three-piece musical ensemble presented the perfect last touch to the ambiance. What resulted was a truly comfortable place to meet other Chamber members and enjoy a glass of wine and appetizers.

As Ward Todd, President of the Ulster Chamber, presented door prizes, I stood by the doors to the patio–just beyond lay the falls which roared from the darkness.

We wish the best of luck to Diamond Mills and thank them for their participation, as well as the sponsors of the mixer, M&T Bank.

Party planners hard at work

Four of our staff, plucked from the spectrum covering indexing and QA through to management, took a break from their daily routines to plan the E-BizDocs holiday party for 2011.

“We’re mostly looking at the entertainment possibilities, maybe a centerpiece or two. We want to make it a lot of fun, and something that can bolster company spirit,” Michelle Wheet, Project Manager said.

With the holiday season upon us, E-BizDocs would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving. Enjoy.

Enterprise Document Management: The Final Frontier

Captain’s Log, Stardate -311111.5296803653. We are in the mezzanine quadrant of the Palace System. Our mission: To explore new business opportunities and engage in networked socialization amongst the many varied species present. So far, all subjects appear non-hostile.

But seriously, last night, E-BizDocs had a table at the lovely and historic Palace Theatre for their movie series–the feature yesterday was the Wrath of Khan.

Our neighbors, a Star Trek meetup group.

Enable Labs, sponsors of the event, invited us to participate and, initially, we weren’t sure if it would be up our alley, so to speak. Or within our star system, you could say. After meeting the folks at the Palace Theatre and speaking more to Mark Menard and Jim Wilson from Enable, we knew it was an event we wanted to be a part of.

When asked if she thought it was a hit, Pearl Higgins, Director of Special Events at the Palace, she said she was pleased with the outcome. “It was great to see so many people here for the movie and the post-movie networking social.  The food was fantastic, and the company was stellar,” Higgins said. ” We hope to work with Enable Labs on more events again in the future.”

Jim Wilson, Business Developer and Recruiter at Enable Labs was also impressed by the event:

“It was a great pleasure and wonderful experience for Enable Labs to coordinate last night’s event. Our mission was for the IT community to come together in an elegant space like the Palace Theatre and educate the general public as well as each other on our businesses and technologies, but most importantly, it was a night to have FUN! We are thankful for all those who attended and participated as vendors.”

And as always, E-BizDocs always loves to get into the fun and really activate business interaction. I helps us maintain some levity in what could be a barren and cold (while we’re still on the space theme) business environment, and we meet lots of great people in the process.

So we did our thing. At our table, we demonstrated the Kodak i2800 scanner and laminated business cards into luggage tags to facilitate travel beyond the final frontier. There was information on the entire Kodak i2000 Series, document management software CabinetNG (CNG-SAFE), and the E-BizDocs company overview. With solutions that span small business to enterprise-level applications, we can’t say enough about the importance of an attentive and detailed approach to document management in the office.

We spent the hour before the film talking to the attendees and getting an idea of how they use paper in their office and offering ideas on how to improve workflow and efficiency by scanning the paper documents and, after the show, we joined Enable Labs and their guests for the cocktail hour. It was a lot of fun and definitely a memorable experience.

Join us in February for Office Space
So memorable, in fact, that we’ve signed on to sponsor the Office Space edition of the movie series on February 27, 2012. If you’re interested in attending, give us a call at (518) 456-1011 and let us know. We plan on making it another spectacular evening, filled with information, education, fun, and excitement. Also, you can bring your office as a group and find out how to win a chance to participate in the office-equipment beat-down.

Chamber Kick-off
The Albany-Colonie Chamber will be hosting a mixer immediately prior to the Office Space event, so we’re really looking forward to connecting with as many new businesses as possible.

Finally, we had some slides on our monitor during the show, and we’ve included them in the gallery below so you can get familiar with what Enterprise Document Management can look like.

Bringing it back to the Catskills

We just returned from the Ulster Chamber Membership Breakfast at the Holiday Inn on Washington Ave., Kingston. After the hearty breakfast and networking over the table, the event introduced us to a few dynamic individuals with interesting topics to bring to the membership.

We always like to thank the sponsor, and the HealthAlliance of Hudson Valley filled that role this morning. You can read about them at their About page on their website.

Next in the lineup was Dean Gitter, a Catskill Park native and ongoing enthusiast, and an integral part of the newly formed Catskill Park Resource Foundation. The goal of the foundation is to initiate a five-year plan of marketing, branding, and advertising the Catskill Park and surrounding area in hopes of rejuvenating the tourism activity. Being based in Albany, the Park is right in our backyard and we’d love to see this project explode with success.

It’s only through the dedicated efforts of such individuals and the support of the community that we will ensure that the next flooding will be that of eager tourists and their vacation dollars, bringing that revenue back to the Catskills.

Having a little fun in business

As you already know, we were very pleased with the article in the Albany-Colonie Chamber‘s Visions. So much so, that we thought it would be fun to give them an official thank you. We tied some balloons to a Life of Paper mug with a notecard that had only a QR code inside. When scanned, it returned this page.

Later that morning, we received an email from the Chamber with an attachment: you guessed it–it was another QR code. This one delivered us the following image:

We can tell you, for a dreary Thursday afternoon, this sure was a lot of fun and something we love doing: interacting with the Chambers. They do a lot for business and it’s always a treat to bring a little levity to business.

The smiley face balloons help, too.

In Visions

Members of the Albany-Colonie Chamber, make sure you check out the new issue of Visions. They have a QR-centric issue that covers the how-tos, whys, and wheres of QR code marketing integration.

We were contacted and asked to provide a few words on our use of QR codes and we’d like to thank the Chamber for asking us to participate. It came out great.

Employee of the Month: November 2011

Today was our monthly employee recognition luncheon, and to take a turn on the pizza we usually opt for, we incorporated the upcoming holiday, Thanksgiving. A turkey dinner splayed on the conference table fed our multitude of employees, and our management was there to serve.

“With such a dedicated and talented staff serving us daily, it was nice to return the favor,” Howard Gross, owner of E-BizDocs said.”

Honors went to Danielle, a doc prepper and team leader in our office. As part of the team for the last several years, Danielle has brought exceptional efforts to the department.
